Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, Lupita Cordova Fernandez has been back-and-forth on selling the restaurant her family started 52 years ago.
Now, she has sold it: The last day for Chico’s Mexican Restaurant, at 4407 W. Maple, will be Sept. 19. Fernandez, who has owned the restaurant for the past 28 years, shared the news Monday morning.
There is one small silver lining, though. The buyers of the restaurant also plan to start a restaurant in the space. Daniel Sanchez of Lange Real Estate, who represented Fernandez in the sale, said that the new owners plan to open a Japanese restaurant in the building. Closing on the sale is scheduled for the end of September, he said, and the owners don’t want to share details until then.
Fernandez first shared plans to sell Chico’s in August 2020, saying that COVID-19 shutdowns had taken a toll on the business. Then, two years later, she took the restaurant off the market, having decided to tough it out…
