The harvest moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the date of the autumnal equinox, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. It typically occurs in September, but sometimes happens in October. It’s called the harvest moon because this time of year is important for harvesting crops in the Northern Hemisphere.
