WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The families of the victims of Flight 5342 spoke at a press conference Tuesday in Washington, D.C., urging lawmakers to enact aviation safety reforms.
“None of our family members chose what happened that night, and none of us left behind chose it either,” said Doug Lane, whose wife died in the plane crash. “But we did have a choice about what came next. Our families held on to one another, and then we got to work.”
American Airlines Flight 5342 took off from Wichita on Jan. 29, 2025, and collided with an Army helicopter near Reagan National Airport. All 64 people aboard the plane, and the three soldiers on the helicopter, died.
