Proposed gas station won’t be built after suburban council rejects it

A proposed gas station that has been the topic of months-long pushback in the south Wichita suburb of Haysville will not be allowed after the council rejected the business’s permit Monday.

The council denied the permit 7-2, with council members Eric Myers and Dale Thompson in the minority. The applicant has the option to appeal the decision to district court or they can wait one year and apply for the conditional use again.

The gas station was proposed for the northwest corner of 79th and Broadway. It’s a mix-used area, though the majority is residential.
