Man who killed QT security guard in downtown Wichita sentenced

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita man who was convicted by a jury in October 2023 of murdering a QuikTrip security guard was sentenced on Friday.

Laroy West was sentenced to a hard 50 years in prison for the first-degree murder charge, which means he will not be eligible for parole until 50 years have been served.

On Oct. 30, 2023, West was found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was found not guilty of one count of aggravated assault.

The judge sentenced West to a various amount of months on the other charges, with a total controlling sentence of 50 years hard with 62 months (5 years and 2 months) to run consecutively after that.

The crimes were committed on May 5, 2021 . Will Robinson , 39, was a former Wichita police officer and was shot by West after escorting him off the property of the QuikTrip at the intersection of Murdock and Broadway. Robinson later passed away shortly after.
