A mom whose toddler reportedly died of choking has been arrested for murder.
Shanna Kay Whitton has been charged with one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of abuse of a child, one count of aggravated child endangerment and one count of aggravated arson, according to a press release from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas.
Whitton has been in jail since Oct. 9, 2025 on arson-related charges for a fire that started in her 15-month-old son Matthew’s bedroom, which investigators deemed intentional.
It is unclear from court documents whether Whitton has entered a plea in the murder case…
