1. Eddie Bauer (All Locations)
In a major blow to Kansas’s outdoor-apparel scene, the legendary Eddie Bauer is officially exiting the brick-and-mortar market. Following a bankruptcy filing in February 2026, the entity operating the brand’s physical stores failed to secure a bidder at auction. While the brand will continue to exist as a digital-only entity, all 175 of its physical shops are closing for good.
Kansas is losing its remaining presence in major retail centers, including popular shops at Towne East Square in Wichita and various outlet centers. Final inventory sales and equipment removal are slated to conclude by late May 2026, marking the end of the brand’s century-long physical era in the state.
2. Express (Statewide Restructuring)
Following its high-profile Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, fashion staple Express is narrowing its footprint to focus on its “Express Edit” boutique model and top-performing sites. The company identified nearly 100 underperforming stores nationwide for closure to stabilize its finances in preparation for a potential acquisition.
In Kansas, the restructuring has targeted several key mall units. Inventory clear-outs have been underway throughout the season, with doors expected to lock for the last time by mid-spring 2026.
