Trucker injured in crash after falling asleep at the wheel, officials say

WICHITA, Kan. (WIBW) – A truck driver was taken to the hospital after a crash that occurred after he fell asleep at the wheel on Interstate 35 along the Kansas Turnpike on the south side of Wichita, officials said.

The crash was reported at 7:10 a.m. Thursday on southbound I-35 near S. George Washington Boulevard.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol’s online crash log, the driver of a 2022 Freightliner semitrailer became fatigued and fell asleep while he was behind the wheel.

The rig struck the median barrier wall on the left side of the southbound lanes of travel, causing the semi to become disabled…
