Neighbor enters plea in fatal shooting of Wichita man

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita man has entered a plea in the shooting death of his neighbor during a home invasion, avoiding a trial.

Matthew Morgan was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Friday where he instead entered an Alford plea to involuntary manslaughter, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. Under an Alford plea, a defendant doesn’t admit guilt but admits there is enough evidence that they likely would be convicted.

The shooting happened on Dec. 27 near Douglas Avenue and Interstate 135. When police arrived, they found Markus Adkins and another man inside of a home with gunshot wounds.
