Man pleads guilty in Wichita hit-and-run that killed cyclist

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man who was charged with a hit-and-run that killed a cyclist in 2025 pleaded guilty Wednesday, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office says.

During his arraignment, Blaine Hughes pleaded guilty failing to stop at an accident reasonably known to result in death.

Last September, police were called to the area of Broadway and Murdock avenues, where they found 57-year-old Daniel Forshey lying in the street.

He had been riding a bicycle when Hughes hit him with a pickup truck, according to police.

Hughes told police that he was on way to work when the crash happened and that left because he feared losing his job if he was late.

Hughes’ sentencing is set for July 2, the DA’s office said…
