Six Kansas lakes under toxic algae watches and warnings

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Kansans heading to the lake over Memorial Day weekend may need to be on the lookout for harmful algal blooms.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks issued a public health advisory Friday due to blue-green algae.

The following lakes are under blue-green algae warnings:

  • Herington City Lake (Old), Dickinson County (added Friday)
  • King Lake, Lyon County
  • Lake Afton, Sedgwick County

Blue-green algae watches are in effect for:

  • Eureka Lake, Greenwood County (added Friday)
  • Jewell State Fishing Lake, Jewell County (added Friday)
  • Chisholm Ridge Ponds (Clearwater), Sedgwick County (added Friday)
