A historic memorial ceremony will take place Wednesday September 23rd to recognize the Revolutionary War soldiers buried in a mass grave at Wilmington-Brandywine Cemetery.
The grave is known to contain the remains of at least 66 soldiers: 28 Americans from the Rhode Island Regiment and 38 British soldiers. 33 of them have been identified by name, and their names will be read during a ceremony Wednesday at the Cemetery on Delaware Avenue, starting at 10:00 a.m. It is open to the public.
Rhode Island’s Secretary of State Gregg Amore, Colonel Thomas Archer Burton representing the United Kingdom, and a direct descendant of Rhode Island Regiment soldier Private Caesar Rose are expected to attend.
