Firefighters rescue residents as flames tear through the third-floor unit at Hunter Crossing Apartments in Newark

According to the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company , crews were dispatched at 3:43 p.m. on May 7 to the unit block of Fairway Road after the New Castle County 911 Center received multiple reports of a fire inside a multi-residential building, including calls from residents who said they were unable to escape.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire showing from the third floor of the three-story apartment building while residents were still evacuating the structure. Command officers quickly requested a second alarm to bring additional manpower and equipment to the scene.

Firefighters conducted searches throughout the building and confirmed that no victims remained trapped inside…
