Tax hike, library cuts, data center are topics of concern at New Castle County town hall meeting

County Executive Marcus Henry heard concerns about a proposed tax hike, cuts to library hours and the planned data center complex on Ogletown Road during a town hall meeting at the Newark Senior Center on Monday.

The meeting is one of several Henry is having around the county as he tries to explain to residents the need for the 17.2% property tax increase he is proposing as part of the Fiscal Year 2027 budget.

“Please understand, I don’t take this lightly,” Henry said. “I didn’t choose to do this, but it’s absolutely necessary that we stabilize our county operations. By doing this, our structure will be a much stronger footing in the future.”…
