Several classrooms closed at C.F. Pope Elementary due to possible mold growth

PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Several classrooms at C.F. Pope Elementary School will remain closed while crews clean possible “mold-like growth” and officials await indoor air quality test results.

Pender County Schools announced Monday, Aug. 17, that the growth was found in classrooms serving kindergarten and preschool students. The district said the condition appears to have developed while the school’s HVAC system was temporarily shut down for planned improvements.

A professional cleaning team has removed the carpets from the affected classrooms and sent them out for cleaning, the district said. Workers have also hand-cleaned the classrooms…
