Inmate transport van escape ends in quick recapture, sheriff’s office says

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Authorities have shared new details about an inmate who was recaptured after escaping from a transport van in New Hanover County Thursday.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), the inmate jumped out of the moving van at around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 while being taken to the New Hanover County Detention Facility by a CCSO Transport Deputy.

After the deputy notified dispatch and requested assistance, NHCSO established a perimeter and began searching for the inmate. Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office deputies and additional CCSO personnel were also en route to assist with the search…
