Wilmington proposes $350 million budget with nearly 20% property tax increase

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – City of Wilmington leaders are discussing a $350.3 million proposed budget for the 2027 fiscal year that includes a 5.75-cent property tax increase.

City Manager Becky Hawke presented her recommended budget on Monday, May 4. The proposal totals $350,328,326 and would fund the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.

The proposal is over $44 million more than the 2026 adopted budget of $306,603,212.
