Central Mass. man charged with motor vehicle homicide, OUI in double fatal crash

A driver was arrested Saturday night after hitting an SUV stopped at a red light in North Reading, killing a minor and a man who were inside the vehicle, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

Matthew Sweeney, 21, of Paxton has been charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence and operating to endanger in connection with the crash, prosecutors said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Sweeney was driving an Acura MDX on Route 28 at a high rate of speed when his SUV collided with a Honda HR-V around 10:45 p.m., prosecutors said. At the time, the Honda was stopped at a red light…
