Worcester teacher blasts school district over special education decision

Plans by Worcester Public Schools to close two special education programs and move a third has drawn an angry response from at least one staff member.

In a letter sent to school and city officials, Angela Moore, a teacher at the Worcester Alternative School, blasted the decision to close that school, and the Academic Center for Transition, at the end of the academic year in June. Both programs will integrate into the Central Massachusetts Collaborative.

“I am writing to share my serious concerns regarding the closure of the Worcester Alternative School and its merger into the Central Massachusetts Collaborative,” said Moore, who is retiring from WPS after 32 years, the last three at the Alternative School. “While I am sure other options may have been considered before reaching this decision, I have serious reservations about how much knowledge the decision-makers actually had about these programs before moving forward with such a devastating outcome.”…
