For 100 years, Phyllis Horton Rockhill called Carmel home.
When she was an infant, her family relocated from Noblesville to Carmel, where she lived until May before moving to an assisted living facility in Fishers.
Rockhill, 102, was about five years old when she began helping her parents deliver groceries and work in her father’s Main Street store, Horton’s Meat Market.
Carmel in the 1930s and 1940s was “quiet, peaceful and friendly,” Rockhill said. She has fond memories of playing hopscotch and hide-and-seek with the kids in her neighborhood and counting horses on the streets…
