ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now)– The Tall Ship Providence has sailed for the last time, for now, as it remains at its homeport at Waterfront Park.
The replica of the original ship used during the Revolutionary War shut down Friday, according to a statement from the Tall Ship Providence Foundation, which operates the ship for tours and a floating classroom.
“It’s pretty sad”, said Calvin Gates, who has visited Providence for a good part of his life. “It’s kind of a dark day when things of the historical nature and such an important contribution to nautical and maritime history aren’t in operation anymore.”…
