CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Three people connected to a federal corruption probe involving North Charleston city officials will learn their sentences Monday.
Former North Charleston City Councilman Mike Brown, nonprofit leader Michelle Stent-Hilton and Core4Success founder Donavan Moten are among eight people charged in the FBI probe. All three pleaded guilty ahead of their sentencing hearings.
The cases stem from a scheme in which two nonprofits — DEEP SC and Core4Success — agreed to pay former Councilman Jerome Heyward kickbacks in exchange for his support in awarding them violence reduction grants from the city.
