SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The second man charged in the Dunham Park shooting in Sioux Falls learned his fate Friday.
A judge handed Walter Stewart a 15-year sentence, but indicated she would have given him more time if she could. In a plea deal with prosecutors, Stewart pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2024 shooting death of Joshua Allen in Dunham Park.

In exchange for the deal, he agreed to testify against the other suspect in the case, Lamont Burks Junior. But earlier this month, after a two-week trial, a jury found Burks guilty of aggravated assault but not murder.In court Friday, Josh Allen’s mother and his widow read statements to the judge asking for the maximum sentence. Stewart read a statement apologizing to Allen’s family.The judge then addressed the court, setting the scene on that day in August of 2024.
Allen and Stewart had been feuding and met at the park to settle their argument. She described how Stewart had hidden a gun at the scene before the fight, and grabbed the gun and shot Allen and others after Stewart was beaten…
