Multiple law enforcement agencies responded after a report of a wrong-way driver on Interstate 88, according to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
The office was alerted to a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 88 on June 28 at about 1:06 p.m. The suspect vehicle sideswiped another vehicle before exiting the interstate at the Franklin Road emergency access point in Lee County.
The Illinois State Police found the suspect vehicle after it left the interstate while Lee County Deputies were responding and tried to stop it. The vehicle fled from the Illinois State Police and efforts to stop it were ended due to safety concerns. The Rock Falls Police Department advised at about the same time that they had responded earlier in the day to conduct a welfare check involving the suspected driver. The suspect vehicle was identified as a gray 2025 Hyundai and the driver was identified as Samara Russell, 37 of Chicago.…
