ROLAND, Ark. – Arkansas State Police said Sixth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Will Jones has determined that the use of deadly force by three state park rangers in a May shooting was justified.
Around 6:15 p.m. on May 25, first responders were dispatched to a home in the 22000 block of State Highway 300 in Roland for a possible medical emergency.

When they arrived, first responders found a man with a large cut to his head and, while treating him, saw another person nearby with a machete.
Authorities said three Arkansas State Park Rangers were the first law enforcement officers to arrive at the rural home, where they found 31-year-old Matthew Garrett of Judsonia holding the machete.
