ARDOT opens public comment on new STIP plan

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is seeking public comment until July 28 on its Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) draft for the 2027-2030 budget. A number of the projects affect traffic patterns inside — and outside — the city of Jonesboro.

The STIP draft is a federally mandated document detailing all proposed improvements around all of ARDOT’s districts. The improvements are drafted up based on years of research — some projects in the current draft have issues flagged as early as 2020.

Media Communications Manager for ARDOT Ellen Coulter said all of these projects are based on the findings of those discoveries. For Northeast Arkansas and specifically Craighead County, she said that need is tied to a growing population…
