OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The body of a 19-year-old was recovered from Wehrspann Lake over the weekend, prompting the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to urge boaters to wear life jackets on the water.
Investigators said Wyatt Bernal and another person were canoeing on the lake Thursday when their canoe tipped over.
Following the incident, the DCSO said life jacket use applies to all boaters, regardless of experience level.
“The biggest thing that we always do, as far as education-wise, is life jackets,” said Deputy Jeremy Ruhland. “I mean, that is basically the seatbelt to your car. It is a great lifesaving measure in case of a catastrophe or a boating accident.”…
