WASHINGTON (TNND) — A long-running effort to split Illinois is gaining new momentum as seven more counties prepare to vote this fall on whether to explore separating from Chicago and Cook County to form a new state.
The non-binding advisory questions would join similar measures already approved in 33 Illinois counties, where supporters argue the political priorities of rural and suburban communities are routinely overshadowed by the state’s largest population center. (TNND)
