Man gets 63 years for murdering Wicker Park hookah lounge doorman on New Year’s Day 2023

A Cook County judge on Friday sentenced a man to 63 years in prison for killing a bouncer and injuring another person during a shooting outside a Wicker Park hookah bar early on New Year’s Day 2023.

A jury in September 2025 found 33-year-old Jimmy Chamberlain guilty of murdering Austin McAllister, a 38-year-old father of six and military veteran, and wounding another man during the shooting at Lyon’s Den Hookah Lounge.

Chicago police said Chamberlain tried to enter the lounge around 1:30 a.m. on January 1, 2023, while brandishing a handgun. After being denied entry to the private event three times, he returned with a gun and shot McAllister, who was working as a bouncer that night. McAllister was killed in the shooting.
