Albany empanada restaurant to close after 13 years

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Peruvian restaurant in Albany will be closing its doors after more than a decade in business. La Empanada Llama, located on Delaware Avenue, said its last day is scheduled for September.

La Empanada Llama was founded in June 2013 by Peruvian immigrant Maria Lloyd, her husband Joseph Lloyd and their daughter Andrea. The restaurant has since become known for its wide variety of empanadas, tamales and other Latin American cuisine staples.

“Since opening our doors in 2013, it has been an incredible honor to serve the Albany community,” the owners said in a social media post on Saturday. “What began as a dream grew into so much more than a restaurant, it became a place to share our love of Peruvian cuisine and connect with so many wonderful people.”

Now, La Empanada Llama plans to permanently close at the end of the September. The business said the decision came “after much thought and with heavy hearts.”…
