As the 2027 race for Mayor of Chicago heats up, a man who’s been around city government for the better part of four decades is chiming in on the race.
Paul Vallas served as Budget Director under Mayor Richard M. Daley, he was also the CEO of Chicago Public Schools. Vallas also led school districts in Philadelphia and New Orleans. He’s had a run as a politician as well, running for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and most recently Mayor of Chicago.
He made the runoff in 2023, ultimately losing to current Mayor Brandon Johnson. Vallas joined The Point on a day when a man many see as a possible 2027 candidate, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, released a pair of ads touting his accomplishments in office. Vallas told The Point he thinks Giannoulias and all the other candidates still have work to do to gain the backing of big money donors, “I think the business community is still somewhat hesitant. Clearly, the unions are, I think, they’re betting on Giannoulias.”…
