Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, some city officials request funds to improve Heritage Park

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and other city officials are requesting that $2.5 million from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund be used as an “emergency investment” to improve a neglected apartment complex in north Minneapolis.

Frey and Minneapolis City Council Member Pearll Warren joined city staff in a proposal Tuesday requesting the city council reallocate funds to improve the units of a 20-year-old housing complex called Heritage Park. The funds could also be used to help people relocate while contractors determine the conditions of the units.

“People deserve homes that are safe to live in — that’s not negotiable,” Frey said in a press release. “The $2.5 million we’re bringing forward today is about making sure support is available and any relocation is minimally disruptive. Residents shouldn’t have to navigate this uncertainty alone, and the City is stepping up to help however we can.”…
