KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Idonnas Gavrilys, the alleged leader of a burglary ring that targeted more than 100 Kansas City businesses, was sentenced Thursday to 17 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
A judge accepted Gavrilys’ plea agreement on 14 counts of second-degree burglary and one count of property damage. He received one year credit for time served.
Business owners react
Anchor Island Coffee on Troost was among the 14 businesses Gavrilys admitted to breaking into. Surveillance video from August 2024 showed the break-in at that location.
Owner Mike Hastings said the burglary cost his business roughly $3,000. Thieves took stovetops and broke a storefront window that had only recently been replaced following a previous incident.
“They took all of our stovetops,” Hastings said. “We’re coming in for a busy day and we’re expecting to, you know, cook food. And we’re like, well, we literally can’t do the one thing that we do because they took our equipment.”…
