Oregon’s latest No. 1 ranking leaves Dan Lanning no excuses in championship pursuit

Heading into the 2026 college football season, the expectations for the Oregon Ducks are simply National Championship or bust. The Dan Lanning era has been incredibly fun with the Bo Nix years along with the past two seasons making the College Football Playoff in back-to-back seasons while winning the Big Ten in 2025.

The moment that Dante Moore announced his decision to return to Oregon for one more seasonrather than being a 1st round pick it elevated the expectations. Adding in the decisions to return by A’Mauri Washington and Matayo Uiagalelei, the Ducks may have the most talented group in program history.

On3’s unit rankings only add to the pressure to deliver in 2026

As the season rapidly approaches, the focus in the media is quickly shifting from recruiting to the upcoming season. On3’s JD PicKell revealed his rankings for the best defenses in the Country on Thursday, and the Oregon Ducks sat alone at the top of the list.

It’s very easy to see why Oregon earned the top ranking on the list given the talent at each level of this defense. The defensive line is easily the Nation’s best with the returning duo of Teitum Tuioti and Matayo Uiagalelei off the edge along with Bear Alexander and A’Mauri Washington at defensive tackle. The defensive backfield features the stellar duo of Brandon Finney Jr and Koi Perich which is arguably the best CB-S tandem in the Country…
