Locals have a surprising reaction to the news, with many celebrating in the TikTok video’s comments. The video has over 113,000 views and nearly 6,000 likes.
The diner is located in the Lakeview neighborhood, and reportedly failed two inspections before the closure. The Illinois restaurant has a sign posted on its doors that reads, “License suspended.” The report reveals that during the first inspection, “two live cockroaches and over 50 trapped roaches and roach carcasses were found.” This is in addition to other cleanliness violations. When officials came back for a follow-up inspection, things hadn’t improved. The report states that they found “issues with wastewater disposal, damaged floors, [and an] accumulation on bathroom vents.” There are also reports that the diner has failed inspections in the past.
