VIDEO: Protesters gather on I-64 footbridge to honor John Lewis’ legacy

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A group of protesters gathered along a pedestrian overpass on I-64 Friday morning, displaying a sign that read “Be like John Lewis. Make Good Trouble.”

A WAVY employee captured dashcam video on I-64 East during the Friday morning commute that shows people spanning the interstate overpass, with many holding flags. They were standing on the footbridge near the Norview Ave. exit in Norfolk.

John Lewis, the late civil rights leader and U.S. Congressman, was famously known for his rallying cry to get into “good trouble, necessary trouble.” He was frequently arrested and beaten for challenging systemic racism and fighting for voting rights.
