Construction starts next month to add sidewalks along part of Midlothian Turnpike

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – People who walk along Midlothian Turnpike from Ruthers Road towards Springline at District 60 may navigate this stretch by maneuvering through grass or the side of the road, but this will soon change.

“We just need to get people a safe place to walk out of traffic,” said Nate Mathis, principal engineer for the Chesterfield Department of Transportation. “It’s really that simple.”

Next month, crews are expected to start construction on a sidewalk improvement project along this busy stretch in Chesterfield starting from Ruthers Road to just beyond Boulders Parkway.

“We actually applied for the money for this project actually before COVID, and so we’ve been working on this project for many, many years,” said Mathis.

In addition to installing sidewalks on both sides of Midlothian Turnpike, Mathis said crews will also be installing pedestrian crossings at Ruthers Road and Turner Road…
