1,000 Palm Beach County students start school supplied after free backpack distribution

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — As families prepare for the start of the new school year, 1,000 students in Palm Beach County received backpacks filled with school supplies during a community giveaway event Saturday.

The back-to-school event was held at the Student Life Center at Keiser University in West Palm Beach and provided free backpacks stocked with classroom essentials for elementary, middle and high school students.

Each backpack included notebooks, colored pencils and pencil kits containing No. 2 pencils, a sharpener, eraser, ruler and pouch.

Organizers said the giveaway was designed to help ease the financial burden many families face when purchasing school supplies ahead of the new academic year. The effort aimed to ensure students begin the school year equipped with the tools they need for success in the classroom…
