Volunteers keep 150-year-old Newark Township grist mill running

NEWARK TOWNSHIP, Wis. (WMTV) – One of Wisconsin’s oldest grist mills has been operating since 1868 and continues to grind corn today, kept alive by a team of volunteers.

Rock County purchased the Beckman Mill property in 1990 and began refurbishing the land. The mill is located in Newark Township, just outside of Beloit.

Two volunteers have been part of the mill’s transformation since the county’s purchase, working to keep the mill operational and open for public tours…
