SANTA MONICA – Arrests by Santa Monica police have jumped nearly 70% this year, while officer-initiated activity has increased more than 27%, according to newly released department data.
The Santa Monica Police Department made 2,656 arrests through July 4, up from 1,563 during the same period in 2025. Officer-initiated activity rose 27.5%, while calls from residents declined 4%.
The figures were released Friday in the department’s latest Blue Notebook report, which also showed a rise in police activity during the Fourth of July week.
