Pittsburgh bridge demolished ahead of lateral slide replacement

The 75-year-old Commercial Street Bridge on Interstate 376 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, has been demolished in a controlled implosion as part of a major bridge replacement project.

According to local media, the explosive demolition took place Thursday 16 July after being postponed by a day to allow crews additional time to complete final safety checks.

The demolition forms part of an accelerated bridge construction (ABC) programme being delivered by Fay, S&B USA Construction (Fay).
