The hottest temperatures of the year so far are expected Monday and Tuesday with oppressive heat indexes causing the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a heat advisory for portions of Northern Arkansas.
The heat advisory goes into effect Monday morning at 10 and will remain until 9 on Tuesday evening. Temperatures Monday are expected to reach 95 degrees in Mountain Home with heat index values reaching 106. Tuesday will be the hottest day with daytime highs reaching near 100 degrees with a heat index upwards of 109.
Hot temperatures and high humidity can cause heat illnesses to form quickly. It is important to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside.
