Today would have been Chris Cornell’s 62nd birthday. The legendary Soundgarden front man is no longer with us, but did you know several free sound gardens are around Wichita Falls?
The band Soundgarden actually got their name from an outdoor public arts project in Seattle. Fun fact, we actually have five sound garden installations throughout Wichita Falls you could visit today. Here is where they’re located.
Lucy Park Sound Garden ( 100 Sunset Drive)
This sound garden installation can be found just past the log cabin and swimming pool at the park. All of the sound garden installations were thanks to the Wichita Falls Parks and Recreation Department and the Arts Council of Wichita Falls. The Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra also helped with the installation of this one in Lucy Park.
Lake Wichita Park ( 5205 Fairway Boulevard)
Right next to the main parking lot at Lake Wichita Park, you will find out next sound garden installation in Wichita Falls.
Lamar Park ( 2221 Lucas Avenue)
If you visit the playground at Lamar Park, this sound garden will not be hard to find. Literally steps away from the slide, your kids can enjoy the free sound garden.
Jalonick Park ( 405 Walnut Street)

Kemp Center for the Arts ( 1300 Lamar Street)
The final sound garden can actually be found at the Arts Council of Wichita Falls headquarters, which is the Kemp Center for the Arts. The sound garden is located in their sculpture garden…
