ORLANDO, Fla. — As the 2026-27 school year approaches, a Central Florida nonprofit is making sure student athletes return to the field and court with a full heart screening, which is now required by law.
To make sure student athletes don’t unknowingly put their lives at risk, the Florida Legislature passed Senate Bill 1070 in 2025, known as the Second Chance Act, which requires an ECG screening (electrocardiogram) for every Florida high school student who wants to play sports.
