BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – A volunteer wildlife rehabilitator in Buncombe County is speaking out after health officials released a statement urging residents to get checked for rabies if they had visited her home or rescue center.
Michelle Cole, a volunteer at Alleyoop Wildlife Rescue in Candler, told FOX Carolina that she brought some raccoons into her home when they were four weeks old. One of them allegedly had its arm chopped off by a chainsaw.
“I raised them every single day, gave them their rabies and distemper vaccinations, and kept them in a separate building away from my house and family,” Cole said. “They grew into healthy, year-old adults, and I had them fully prepared for release this Sunday (July 12) in Marshall.”…
