PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A center dedicated to advancing career and technical education in the city of Portsmouth will not be opening on time and Portsmouth Public Schools said the city is to blame.
In a letter sent home to families last week, the school division said that the multi-million dollar project to convert the former Diagnostic, Adjustive and Corrective Center for Learning into the Portsmouth Advanced Career Education Center, or PACE Center, will now not be complete until January 2027. The building was supposed to open in August.
The school division wrote that “building issues were not addressed by the city in a timely manner.” It also added that “several contracts have not been finalized by the city in order to complete major equipment installations.”
