Ascension Parish man accused of kicking dog, firing gun during argument

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — “Someone was going to die tonight,” a Donaldsonville man is accused of saying before an argument at a Baton Rouge residence.

Jalen Cayette, 26, of Donaldsonville, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, cruelty to animals, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, and possession of marijuana.

The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) responded on July 16, 2026, to a disturbance involving weapons. Someone alerted BRPD that a man was shooting his gun outside of his residence on Aubin Lane, according to the affidavit.
