SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Linda Garcia lives near 750 State Street in Schenectady, the site where officials have plans to build a Save A Lot grocery store. Right now, she goes to a grocery store near Union Street, which is miles from her home. Garcia is confident the new store will be well attended.
“That’d be a blessing, really,” said Garcia. “I’m quite sure you’ll get a good turnout because people like cheaper stuff, first of all, you know. It’s best in the economy we live in, [so] I’m looking forward to it.”

The store will be put in as part of a $115 million investment from the state to revitalize downtown Schenectady. The only cost to the county was $3 million, some of which was to secure the site, and some which will go to toward the project.
Along with the grocery store, there are plans for 750 affordable apartments to be built in the neighborhood, with about 80 apartments on the same site as the store. Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy said the project is probably the largest in 100 years…
