The trial of a man accused of seriously injuring Ferguson police officer Travis “TJ” Brown during a protest two years ago began Wednesday at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Clayton.
Circuit Judge Mary Elizabeth Ott’s courtroom was packed. Brown sat in a wheelchair next to his family, who occasionally wiped away tears as opening arguments began. Elijah Gantt — who is facing several charges including second-degree assault and first-degree property damage — wore a light gray suit and occasionally looked around the room, stealing glances at Brown and his family before looking away.
