Continued instability along the Strait of Hormuz between the United States and Iran has led to the national average per gallon of gas jumping 15 cents over the past week to $4.09.
According to the AAA’s weekly report released on Thursday, the national average cost per gallon increased to $4.09 from last week’s $3.94. In the Gainesville area, the price decreased from $3.97 last week to $3.94, and statewide, while Florida’s average price dropped from $3.95 to $3.93.
“The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline jumped 15 cents from last week to $4.09. Most states are now averaging $4 per gallon or higher,” the AAA release stated. “Rising crude oil prices are behind the spike at the pump. Volatility along the Strait of Hormuz and instability in the region have pushed crude oil prices into the $90 per barrel range and could continue driving up costs during the second half of summer.”…
